Photographing a Cardiff‑based korfball team gave me the chance to explore a sport defined by balance, fluidity, and cooperation. Korfball’s structure—where players constantly shift between attacking and defending creates a rhythm that relies on trust and quick, intuitive communication. From the sidelines, it becomes clear that the game isn’t driven by individual dominance but by the collective awareness that allows the team to move as one.
I aimed to capture that synergy. Rather than focusing solely on dramatic action or isolated moments, I looked for the subtle exchanges that shape the flow of play: a glance that redirects movement, a perfectly timed pass, the way space opens and closes as players reposition. These interactions reveal the sport’s deeper character, and they became the foundation of my visual approach.
I worked with a documentary mindset, letting the match's natural pace guide my framing. Wide shots helped show the game's geometry, while closer images highlighted concentration, connection, and the physical demands of each play. Throughout the shoot, the Cardiff team’s cohesion stood out; every movement felt linked to the next, forming a pattern that was both strategic and instinctive.
This project became less about documenting a match and more about portraying a community built on collaboration. Through these photographs, I wanted to show how korfball’s unique structure fosters unity, and how this team embodies that spirit through every pass, pivot, and shared moment on the court.
